Measure the inside
External drawer or cabinet dimensions are not enough. Hinges, rails, handles and sloped walls can reduce usable space. Measure at the narrowest points and leave room to lift an organizer out.
Count the real contents
Arrange everything on a table before choosing compartments. If the organizer requires throwing away half the items to look tidy, it did not solve the original storage problem.
Protect access
Frequently used objects need easy reach. Deep stacked containers can create beautiful hidden layers and add friction every day. Reserve them for occasional items.
Test before multiplying
Buy or mock up one section first. A cardboard template can reveal whether a bin blocks a drawer or wastes space before you order an entire matching set.
